Author: Blanken, G.
Dittmann, J.
Sinn, H.
Appeared in: Aphasiology
Paging: Volume 8 (1994) nr. 3 pages 207-221
Year: 1994-05-01
Contents: This article discusses Wernicke's theory of the cognitive architecture of language and relates it to models used in contemporary neurolinguistics. In addition, Wernicke's view of a theory-guided patient classification is discussed. Special emphasis is placed on his theory of speech production that can be understood to a large extent as a theory of 'conscious' and 'unconscious' correction of speech output. Finally, similarities between Wernicke's theory and current models of language production and speech monitoring are pointed out.
