Titel: Philosophy and the Practice of Freedom: An Interview with Joseph Raz
Auteur: Farneti, Roberto
Verschenen in: Critical review of international social and political philosophy
Paginering: Jaargang 9 (2006) nr. 1 pagina's 71-84
Jaar: 2006-03
Inhoud: This is an interview with Oxford-based philosopher Joseph Raz. The interview explores the turn towards theoretical ethics that characterises Raz's most recent work. The author of the interview is a political philosopher and the format of the questions sets the tone of the interview. The discussion of such topics as autonomy, liberal neutrality, critique of Rawls, etc. is conducted within the general framework of Raz's conception of political theory as the 'theoretical reflection on the considerations which should guide people when their conduct has a political dimensionn'. After his book The Morality of Freedom Raz has continued to develop his ideas in recent years with a distinctive attention for the concept of 'value' and the role played by values in the theory of action. Raz concludes the interview with a defence of the value of 'well-being' and a discussion of the merits of political philosophy at the outset of twenty-first century.
